Superintendent's Message

Dr. Arnetta Crosby
Superintendant

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

We are so excited to welcome all of you to an exciting new year! We look forward to working with our parents, community/business partners and most importantly our students to ensure another great and successful academic year in the Covington County Schools.

Once again, bright and early our buses are rolling, the school bells are ringing, and our students are eagerly coming through our doors and into our classrooms.  We anticipate steady progress toward higher student achievement and expect our graduation rate to increase. It is not every day that we in Mississippi can say that we are the first in the nation to do anything; but, I am proud to say that on our 4th grade NAEP scores that the students of Mississippi took, were at the top of the 16-17 school year charts.

The summer months were a busy time for school staff and central office. This summer we focused on cleaning, painting, and touching up our buildings.  We realize that we did not get around to each campus as needed; however, this will be an on-going effort throughout the year. We ask that you will be patient with us as we make these necessary improvements.

As we welcome the new school year, we will continue to focus on these important things:

  • Provide safe schools for our students and employees;
  • Ensuring outstanding academic and extracurricular opportunities for student
  • Equip our classrooms with up-to-date technology;
  • Work to address our on-going school facility needs; and
  • Offer quality customer service and strengthen our partnerships with parents, business, and the community

There is no doubt that Covington County Schools can be the best district in the nation. We have the ingredients for success already here. We have committed and caring staff who work tirelessly every day to help our district reach it maximum potential. Because of our high expectations, we must concentrate on the processes that we foster continued advancement and growth.  We must evaluate where we stand, determine what we can do to improve, and identify means to make it happen.

We invite you to learn more about our district and keep up with important events happening at ours schools by frequently visiting our website. www.Covingtoncountyschools.org. We encourage you to also download our Covington county school mobile app. Connect with us on Facebook and other means.

I would like to extend best wishes to all students, parents, and employees for a productive school year.

Working together, we will continue to inspire success and a lifetime of learning because here in Covington County our motto stands tall: “Every Student Matters and Every Moment Counts”

Sincerely,

Arnetta K. Crosby, PH.D.
