On April 14, Governor Tate Reeves announced the closing of all public schools in Mississippi for the remainder of the semester. That means neither students nor teachers will be returning to their classrooms in the Covington County School District for the rest of the 2019-20 school year. While this news is difficult for our school community, the decision is understandable and necessary in light of the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus health emergency and the need to keep our students and staff healthy and safe.
We will continue to take guidance from the Governor and Mississippi Department of Education. At the April 13th meeting, the CCSD Board approved the steps we will be taking to address how course credits, promotion, graduation, and other issues will be addressed over the next few weeks.
Once Governor Reeves signs the Executive Order and it is issued, details of next steps will be shared.
